USTA "quick start" tennis program for young kids

10 And Under Tennis

We use the USTA-sanctioned "10AndUnderTennis" (QuickStart) methodology for teaching tennis.  It's geared toward getting kids playing the game quickly, and learning as they go along.  The courts, racquets and balls are all designed specifically for each unique agre group. Throughout our programs, when you see reference to "Red Ball, Orange Ball, Green Ball, Yellow Ball" this chart explains how tennis is taught at those levels.

Red Ball Tennis

Generally, kids aged 5-8 years old, the red ball is large, and made of soft foam to make hitting the ball for younger kids much easier as they build up eye-hand coordination.  The court is about larger - about 1/4 the size of a standard tennis court, and a mini tennis net is used. These adjustments gets kids able to play a real game so quickly!  And this, in turn, helps them feel accomplished and love playing.

Orange Ball Tennis

Generally, kids aged 9-10 years old, the orange ball is smaller than the red foam balls, but still very large and soft to make hitting the ball for younger kids much easier and reduce the risk of getting hit and having it hurt.  The court is about larger - about 3/4 the size of a standard tennis court, and the standard tennis net is used. These adjustments gets kids able to play a real game so quickly!  And this, in turn, helps them feel accomplished and love playing.

Green Ball Tennis

Generally, kids aged 9-12 years old, the green-dot ball is the same size as a standard tennis ball,  it's not foam, but it is softer than a standard tennis ball.  This enables older kids to start making stronger contact with the ball, but still enable better control as they learn to perfect their strokes.  Green-dot kids play on a full sized court.

Yellow Ball Tennis

Generally, kids aged 11 years old and up, Yellow ball tennis is played on a full sized tennis court with standard tennis balls.  Kids learn proper stroke production, court positioning, scoring and strategy.
